Can I get survivors benefits from social security?
charlotte q asked:
I am widow and going to apply for survivors benefits. They are requesting a copy of my husbands last w-2 which is 18 years ago and I do not have it. He was recieving social security benefits when he died 10 years ago. Will they have his records on file? I am supposed to recieve round 27% of what he was getting.

Unless your husband was military you have three choices to obtain his W-2 1. you can contact his former place of work and request a copy, 2. you can see if there is still a copy of his W-2 with the last taxes he filed which would be at your home, or if you threw it out 3. contact the IRS. You will need his full name, date of birth, social insurance number but they will tell you everything that you need…it will take a bit of time though.
