Can my mom who is a Philippine citizen received the social security benefits of my deceased dad?
Wengsky asked:
My father was a permanent resident and was receiving social security benefits when he died in 2005. My mom asked the US embassy of the Philippines if she could received a pension, they answered that she should be present in the US to receive that benefit. Can I received it for her behalf since I am here in TX as permanent resident?

DID HE EVER REMARRY?

I hope that neither one of you get a dime. If your mother didn’t pay into social security here in the states then she doesn’t deserve any. It’s no wonder our social security program is in trouble, everybody stands there with their hands out.

No, she had to be living with him while he was earning that money and living in this country. They are not going to send social security to some women who never lived here or even with him. Anyway I hope not.

I suggest you call (1-800-772-1213) or contact the Social Security office. If they told you she’d have to be living here – that’s probably the answer, but you can ask again!

if you are under 18 you are eligible to get your fathers social security.
