What happens to Social Security Disability benefits when two recipients marry?

they combine your income and i believe the most you can draw is 1200 a month. in some cases you lose money. i have a cousin who was drawing 756 a month and so was her boy friend when they were married they only got 1200 a month they lost over 300 a month

I am not sure but I would strongly suggest calling SS and asking. You don’t have to give them your name or anything just tell them your situation and ask. It might benefit all you if you don’t get married. I know getting married is the right thing to do for the sake of your child but anymore, you have to be out for yourself and what is going to benefit you and your child in the long run.

I work for Social Security so I can tell you that if you and your fiance are getting Social Security Disability (not SSI) then you marriage would have no impact on your monthly benefits. However, if you are both getting SSI and you get married then your benefits will change because of your living arrangements.
As for your daughter who is receiving SSI, the benefits will change because now your household income (Social Security Disability benefit is considered income) has increased.
Your Social Security Disability benefits are affected by things like work. Your SSI benefits are affected if you work, get married, sell property, have changes in living arrangements, etc.
